I have a question. I have just started playing History of War, and I have a question about moving units. Can units move directly from one territory into another Territory, or does a unit have to go back to the assembly area first then move into a different territory?

thanks,

Richard

In general, units have to withdraw to the assembly area in order to be deployed to another territory.

There is a small number of territories (not yet available in English, though) where units may move directly from one territory to another, but this is stated expressly on the territory cards.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I was wondering about that. In my first game with my brother, we didn't play with that rule, we just allowed units from one territory to move directly into another territory freely. Next time, we will play by the rules entirely.

By the way, how do games usually play out differently when the territory cards allow movement of units directly from territory to territory (referring to the cards that allow that in the German version).

Thanks,

Richard

Also, excellent art work and historic feel, the best I've ever seen in a game on world war II!

The territory cards Roland talked about are from the pacific edition card sets. By this ability the idea of "island hopping" was tried to be realized.
There are two cards that allow to deploy your units locked into some other pacific territories and the victory effect is a reduction of victory flags needed to conquer those territories.
But moving from one territory directly to an other one is a very powerful ability so as a consequence those territories only have a small number of victory points (4). That means, as a prize for your flexibility you cannot play a victory combination of territories on your own (which would at least require 15 victory points).

So, to answer your question, only highly specialized decks can make use of this combination, it's more likely that you play one of these cards for two reasons.
1. you want to put out one or two uninteresting territories (that may make sense in case your deck is very strong in fighting but doesn't have much power in producing flags quickly)
2. you hope to crush your opponents' territory combination by using this card as a backdoor to react on movement of enemy units quickly

Regards,
Marco

There is also a land improvement which lets you move from one territory to another if it has the same improvement. Don't know the english name of that card (if there is any) but should be something like "Railroad track" and comes with the Russia expansion. But I haven't seen anyone playing that because it consumes space in your deck and probaby won't have too much impact on the game.
